Windows 8.1 RTM Benchmarks

Windows 8.1 RTM Feels Fast! Quick look at Benchmarks.

====
I’ve re-built my work VMWare machine in Parallels Desktop 9 running Windows 8.1 RTM. I noticed it felt a lot snappier than even my fresh build Windows 8 machine with the same resources - 4 cores, 4Gb RAM, running from a SATA-3 SSD. As a side note, they seem to have removed the Windows Experience Index from 8.1. Interesting fact of the day.

So, I thought I’d run some benchmarks. Firstly, let’s look at the benchmarks from
this article where I compared Windows 8 running on VMWare Fusion 6, and on Parallels Desktop 9 (Click on the picture for a bigger version):

Parallels on the left, VMWare fusion on the right - Parallels producing the slightly better result. Now, let’s look at Windows 8.1 running in the same configuration in Parallels Desktop 9.0:

So it seems the benchmarks back up my gut feel that it’s quicker. In Fusion buy the way, the figure came in at 4101, roughly the same compute gap as previously.

I think Microsoft have done a good job with 8.1 - it’s quicker, and it’s fixed some of the bits that people don’t like (ok, maybe not all of them....).
