Office/Lync 2013 Group Policy Templates

Small article explaining how to install the Office 2013 Group Policy Templates.

====

Nice & simple one today - where to get and how to install the Group Policy Templates for Office 2013. These of course now include the Lync 2013 client. So for example if you’ve been reading my article on
Downloading the Address Book in Lync 2013, you could use these policy templates to configure the GalDownloadInitialDelay parameter, rather then editing the registry directly.

Anyway, where do you get the templates from? You can download them from here:

Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) and Office Customization Tool

Once you have the right one, run it and expand the files in to a directory somewhere - obviously make sure you know where it is! In the extracted folder, you’ll find a folder called ‘ADMX’. You’ll find in here language-neutral XML formatted template files.

If you just want the templates on a single computer, copy the ADMX files, and the appropriate language support directory, to the following location:

%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions

You can also implement them in a central-store model too. This article below explains all about that:

How to Implement the Central Store for Group Policy Admin Templates

On your domain controller, copy the ADMX files and the appropriate language directory to the following location:

%systemroot%\SYSVOL\domain\policies\PolicyDefinitions

So it should look like this:

offtemplates

This will then make the templates available from the central store, rather than being computer specific.

When you fire up Group Policy Administration you should see that Office 2013 Group Policy Templates are now available for you to modify as you see fit. Note that the Admin templates should tell you that they’re retrieved from the central store:

The video below shows you a quick run through of how to do it. If you want to watch it hi-def on YouTube,
